Psoriasis is a dermatologically non-infectious disease that quickly becomes chronic. In the period of exacerbation of psoriasis, scaly, protruding rashes appear above the surface of the skin, causing a lot of inconvenience. Typical areas of psoriasis are the knees, elbows, scalp. The spread of the disease occurs throughout the body. A psoriasis diet can alleviate the course of the disease. Statistics say that 70% of patients are young people under the age of 20, but absolutely all age groups are prone to psoriasis.
Nutrition rules for psoriasis
The psoriasis diet is a medical food that is recommended to be followed to avoid recurrence in the patient. Patients with psoriasis should monitor their emotional state, check the functioning of the stomach and the entire gastrointestinal tract, eat small doses (at least five times a day), eliminate allergens and increase the amount of fluid consumed. Daily stools are an unshakable rule for patients with psoriasis. Food stagnation in the body contributes to the exacerbation of psoriasis.
To maintain proper water balance in psoriasis, you need to:
- Drink 1, 7-2 liters of purified water every day with the addition of a small amount of lemon juice.
- Reduce your consumption of black, green tea. Increase the amount of herbal infusions, especially chamomile, flaxseed decoction.
- Include in the diet fresh juices (carrots, spinach, celery, apples, parsley, beets).
Basic rules for cooking for psoriasis:
- Exclude fried and fatty foods from the menu. A special place is occupied by cooked dishes, steamed or baked in a food sleeve.
- Reduce the amount of salt.
- Increase your intake of fermented dairy products, preferably home-made.
- Limit the amount of spices in your meals. For health benefits, replace them with lemon juice or specially prepared sauce (yogurt + herbs + garlic + mustard).
What can and cannot be eaten by patients with psoriasis?
The psoriasis diet presupposes complete control and observance of the basic rules of healthy eating. Few are able to limit themselves, to give up their favorite foods, but during the period of exacerbation of psoriasis - this is a serious necessity. The disease is not completely cured. Its course cannot be changed using drugs only and dietary treatment is not followed. Knowing which foods are allowed for consumption, which should be completely ruled out during an exacerbation of psoriasis, can alleviate the patient's well-being and reduce the underlying symptoms.

The principles of nutritional therapy according to different methods
The usual diets for people with psoriasis are the Pegano method. Two nutritionists agree that to avoid recurrence and worsening of the condition, patients with psoriasis should maintain the acid-base balance of the body in a ratio of 20% to 70% or 30% to 80% and follow the basics of proper nutrition. Let's take a closer look at both diets.
According to Pegano's method
Dr. John Pegano has developed a dietary treatment for patients with psoriasis in which vegetables and fruits are grouped to help regulate acid-base balance. He believes that raw apples, bananas and melons are best consumed in small doses, apart from other nutrients. Blackberries, plums, avocados, beans, cranberries, dried beans, mushrooms, prunes, lentils, rhubarb, almonds, hazelnuts should be eaten in small portions. It is recommended to take 1 tablespoon five days a week. l. lecithin (granular). A slight feeling of hunger should be present after eating.
In his diet for psoriasis up to 80% of the food consumed includes:
- purified water (up to 8 glasses per day) as an additive to other liquids;
- fruits, vegetables, but not preserved. Baked apples, dates, apricots, figs, raisins, kiwis, mangoes, pears are especially useful for patients with psoriasis. Vegetables - asparagus, carrots, cabbage, beets, celery, onions, olives, pumpkin, zucchini. This is the basis of the diet in psoriasis.
About a third of the diet of a patient with psoriasis should be:
- cereals in the form of cereals - buckwheat, millet, oats, barley, rye;
- wholemeal bread, bran, crispy bread, sprouts;
- fish dishes (at least four times a week): tuna, cod, flounder, perch, sturgeon, trout;
- poultry - up to three times a week (without skin);
- meat (extremely lean lamb) - up to twice a week;
- skimmed milk, fermented dairy products, butter, cheese, cottage cheese;
- eggs (only hard-boiled or soft-boiled) - up to four times a week;
- decoctions of chamomile, watermelon seeds, mullein.
The treatment of a patient with psoriasis with a diet according to the method of Pegano excludes the combination with each other:
- whole grains with citrus fruits (not only fresh but also dried, stewed) and juices;
- dairy products with citrus fruits, juices;
- all kinds of fruits with white flour products;
- in one serving of food a large number of acids forming foods.
According to the dietary method
When treating psoriasis with diet, another nutritionist combines food with herbal decoctions. According to her method, the diet completely excludes all citrus fruits (except grapefruit), strawberries, beans, raspberries, avocados, strawberries, pomegranates, lentils, peas. Allowed grapes (in small quantities), cabbage (any portions). Green beans, zucchini, carrots, broccoli, garlic, onions, spinach, cucumbers, pumpkin are recommended to be consumed with short breaks. Bananas, melons and raw apples are consumed separately from other foods. They drink mineral water every day.
